Questions about Ramadan

When does Ramadan 2027 start?
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027 in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, and on Tuesday 9 February 2027 across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Both depend on the sighting of the crescent, so the date can move by a day.
When does sehri end and iftar begin?
Sehri ends as Fajr begins, and iftar is at Maghrib, when the sun has set. Both shift by a minute or two each day and differ from city to city, so use the timetable for your own city rather than a neighbouring one.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
Eid is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027 for those who began on 8 February, and a day later for those who began on 9 February — again subject to the moon. If Ramadan completes thirty days, Eid falls the following day.
Why does Ramadan begin on different days in different countries?
The month begins when the new crescent is sighted, and the crescent is not visible everywhere on the same evening. Countries further west often sight it a day before those further east, and some follow their own local sighting while others follow a calculated calendar. A day's difference between countries is normal and has always happened.
Which night is Laylatul Qadr?
It is in the last ten nights, and most strongly expected on the odd nights — the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th. It was deliberately left unspecified so that the whole of the last ten nights is sought.
