About this programme

One of the highest qualifications in Qur'anic sciences

The Advanced Tajweed programme is not for everyone — and that is precisely what makes it valuable. It is a serious, structured two-year course for students who already know the basics of Tajweed and want to go considerably further.

On successful completion, students receive a formal Ijazah along with Sanad in Riwayat Hafs. A Sanad is an unbroken chain of narration — a documented connection from teacher to teacher, reaching back to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is one of the most respected credentials in Islamic scholarship, and it is earned rather than awarded for attendance. You can read who Imam Hafs was and how the chain runs in more detail.

Not every teacher is authorised to issue this certification. Our scholars at Jamia Hafs hold it themselves, within a family teaching lineage spanning more than 50 years, and are qualified to pass it on.

We have both male and female teachers, so sisters can study the full programme with a female teacher. Teaching is in Urdu and Hindi.

How classes work

What to expect over two years

01

Live daily sessions

Classes are held live, five days a week with your qualified teacher. Consistent, focused sessions that build towards certification over two years.

02

Recitation & correction

Each session involves live recitation with the teacher listening carefully and correcting any errors in pronunciation, Tajweed application or rhythm.

03

Theory & application

Advanced Tajweed theory is taught alongside practical recitation — you understand not just how to recite but why each rule exists in the tradition.

04

Final Ijazah

On successful completion, the teacher issues a formal written Ijazah and documents your Sanad — your verified connection back to the Prophet ﷺ.

What you will achieve

By the end of this programme

01

Formal Ijazah certificate

A written Ijazah in Riwayat Hafs — a recognised certification in Qur'anic recitation sciences.

02

Sanad to the Prophet ﷺ

A documented, unbroken chain of narration connecting you — through verified scholars — to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

03

Authority to teach

With an Ijazah, you are authorised to teach Tajweed and pass on the certification to your own students.

04

Mastery of the entire Qur'an

Complete recitation of the full Qur'an with correct Tajweed throughout — a profound personal and spiritual achievement.

05

A rare qualification

An Ijazah with a documented Sanad is held by relatively few students. Completing this programme places you within that tradition.

06

Ready for further study

Graduates are prepared to move on to our more specialised Qur'anic programmes should they wish to continue.

Our scholars are themselves qualified to issue Ijazah and Sanad — meaning every student who completes this programme receives a certification that is directly traceable back to the Prophet ﷺ. This is not a course certificate; it is a living chain of knowledge, passed on the same way it has been for centuries. Jamia Hafs teaches within a family lineage spanning more than 50 years, and we have both male and female teachers so sisters can study the full programme with a female teacher. Questions

Frequently asked about this course

What is a Sanad?
A Sanad is an unbroken, documented chain of narration — from teacher to teacher — that goes back to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Receiving a Sanad means your recitation of the Qur'an has been heard, corrected and certified by a teacher who holds that same chain. See the full chain, name by name, on our Sanad page , or read our article on Imam Hafs and Riwayat Hafs .
What is the difference between an Ijazah and a Sanad?
The Ijazah is the certificate itself — formal permission from a qualified teacher confirming that you have recited correctly and may now teach others. The Sanad is the chain of teachers that certificate connects you to. At Jamia Hafs the Ijazah is issued along with the Sanad, so you receive both on successful completion.
What level do I need to join this course?
You should already know the basics of Tajweed and be able to recite the Qur'an with reasonable Tajweed. You do not need a certificate from anywhere in particular. If you are unsure whether your level is sufficient, book the free trial class and the teacher will assess you honestly.
Is there a female teacher for sisters?
Yes. We have both male and female teachers, and sisters can complete the entire Advanced Tajweed programme with a female teacher. Please mention this when you book your trial class and we will arrange it.
Can an Ijazah really be earned online?
Yes. An Ijazah is granted on the basis of recitation heard and corrected by a qualified teacher — not on where the student sits. Because every class here is live, the teacher hears your recitation directly and assesses it the same way it has been assessed for centuries.
How long does this programme take?
This is a two-year programme. The Ijazah and Sanad are issued on successful completion, which means completing the full recitation and passing the final assessment — not simply attending for two years.
What can I do with an Ijazah?
With an Ijazah, you are authorised to teach Tajweed and can pass on the certification to your own students. It is a recognised credential in Islamic scholarship and carries significant weight within the community.
How much does the programme cost?
Full fees for the Advanced Tajweed programme are listed on our fees and plans page . There is no registration fee and no cancellation fee, and the first trial class is always free.
What language are the classes taught in?
Classes are taught in Urdu and Hindi. The Qur'anic text is of course in Arabic, and the teacher explains the rules and pronunciation in Urdu and Hindi.
Who can enrol in this programme?
The Advanced Tajweed programme is currently offered to students in India, aged 15 and above. Class timings follow Indian Standard Time, and our team will help you find a slot that suits you when you book a trial class.
What do I need to join a class?
A phone, tablet or laptop with an internet connection, and a copy of the Qur'an. We send the class link before each session, so there is nothing complicated to set up.
Can I cancel if I need to?
Yes — cancel anytime with no questions asked and no cancellation fee. That said, this programme asks for real commitment from both you and your teacher, so we encourage students to join only when they are ready to see it through.
