About this programme

The ideal first step in your child's Islamic education

The Maktab Programme offers structured online Quran classes for kids who are beginning their journey with the Qur'an and Islamic knowledge. Many families know this kind of programme as a madrasa — the Maktab is the same idea, taught live online rather than in person. Whether your child has never held a Qur'an before or has some basic exposure, this programme meets them exactly where they are.

Classes are held live, five times a week, giving children consistent and structured exposure to Arabic, Qur'anic reading and Islamic values without overwhelming them. The approach is patient, encouraging and specifically tailored to young learners.

All Maktab classes are taught by a qualified female teacher, which many parents prefer for younger children and for daughters in particular. Teaching is in Urdu.

Every parent receives regular WhatsApp updates after each class so you always know exactly how your child is progressing. You are also welcome to observe any class at any time — full transparency is important to us.

The Maktab Programme is divided into four progressive modules. Children advance through each module at their own pace with teacher guidance.

What to expect every week

01

Live online session

Every class is held live online, five days a week. Your child interacts directly with the teacher in real time, not watching a recording.

Revision & new material

Each class begins with a short revision of the previous session, then introduces new material. This keeps learning consistent and reinforces what has already been taught.

Practice & feedback

Children read aloud, practise new letters or Surahs, and receive immediate feedback from the teacher. This is the most effective way for children to learn correct pronunciation.
04

Parent update

After every class, parents receive a brief WhatsApp update covering what was covered and how the child performed. You are always welcome to sit in and observe any class.

Frequently asked about this course

What age can my child start? +

Children from 4 years old can join the Maktab Programme, and it is designed for students up to the age of 13. If your child is older, please explore our other courses or get in touch and we will point you to the right one. We have written more on what age a child should start learning the Qur'an, including how to tell whether your child is ready.

Is this the same as an online madrasa? +

Yes. Maktab is the traditional name for the foundational stage of Islamic education for children — learning to read the Qur'an, along with the basics of Salah, duas and Islamic manners. Many families call this a madrasa. The difference here is that classes are held live online with a qualified female teacher, rather than in person.

Is there a female teacher for the children? +

Yes. All Maktab classes are taught by a qualified female teacher. Many parents prefer this for younger children, and particularly for daughters.

How much do the classes cost? +

Full fees for the Maktab Programme are listed on our fees and plans page. There is no registration fee and no cancellation fee, and the first trial class is always free.

My child has never studied Arabic — is that okay? +

Absolutely. The Maktab Programme starts from the very beginning — the Arabic alphabet. No prior knowledge of Arabic or the Qur'an is required whatsoever.

Are online Quran classes effective for young children? +

Yes, when classes are live and interactive rather than pre-recorded. Every Maktab session is a live class where the child reads aloud and the teacher corrects pronunciation immediately. Class sizes are kept small so each child receives individual attention, and lessons are paced to suit a young child's concentration span.

How many classes are there each week? +

Classes are held five days a week. This consistent schedule gives children the regular exposure they need to make real progress.

What language are the classes taught in? +

Classes are taught in Urdu. The Qur'anic text itself is of course in Arabic, and the teacher explains pronunciation and meaning in Urdu.

Who can enrol in the Maktab Programme? +

The Maktab Programme is currently offered to students in India. Class timings follow Indian Standard Time, and our team will help you find a slot that suits your family when you book a trial class.

What does my child need to join a class? +

A phone, tablet or laptop with an internet connection. We send the class link before each session, so there is nothing complicated to set up. A copy of the Qur'an or Qaida is useful, and the teacher will guide you on this at the start.

Can I sit in and watch my child's class? +

Yes — parents are always welcome to observe any class at any time. We believe in full transparency. You will be on the same call and can watch the entire session.

How will I know how my child is progressing? +

After every class, you will receive a brief WhatsApp update covering what was covered and how your child performed. We keep parents informed every step of the way.

What happens if my child misses a class? +

Please inform the teacher in advance via WhatsApp if your child will miss a class. We will do our best to cover the missed content in the next session or reschedule where possible.

How long does it take to complete the programme? +

Every child progresses at their own pace, so there is no fixed duration. Most children who attend consistently complete the full programme within 1 to 2 years. The teacher will guide you on your child's progress throughout.
