The Islamic calendar follows the moon. Each month begins with the sighting of the new crescent, so a year of twelve lunar months is about eleven days shorter than the solar year.

This set gives every Hijri month its own page, from Muharram to Dhul Hijjah. Each page explains what the month's name means, what happens in it, and gives children one small thing to try.

Four of the twelve months are sacred months, marked on their pages: Muharram, Rajab, Dhul Qa'dah and Dhul Hijjah.

The twelve months in order

  • Muharram, Safar, Rabi' al-Awwal, Rabi' al-Akhir
  • Jumada al-Ula, Jumada al-Akhirah, Rajab, Sha'ban
  • Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhul Qa'dah, Dhul Hijjah
