What is the Islamic date today around the world?
Most countries keep the same date as the Umm al-Qura calendar. India begins each month after a local moon sighting, so it is usually one day behind.
| Where | Islamic date | Date there |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia and the Gulf | 16 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH | Tuesday 27 October 2026 |
| India | 15 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH | Tuesday 27 October 2026 |
| UK and Europe | 16 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH | Tuesday 27 October 2026 |
| USA and Canada | 16 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH | Tuesday 27 October 2026 |
| Egypt and the Levant | 16 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH | Tuesday 27 October 2026 |
| Malaysia and Indonesia | 17 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH | Wednesday 28 October 2026 |
Why is the Islamic date different from country to country?
The Islamic calendar is lunar. Each month begins when the thin new crescent is seen after sunset, as the Prophet ﷺ said: "Fast when you see it, and end the fast when you see it; and if it is hidden from you, complete Sha'ban as thirty days" (reported by al-Bukhari).
Saudi Arabia uses the calculated Umm al-Qura calendar together with its own sighting announcements, and many countries follow it. India waits for the moon to be seen in India itself. The young moon is often first visible a day later there, so India's date is usually one day behind. Neither is a mistake: follow the masjid or moon-sighting committee of your own community.
When does an Islamic day begin?
At sunset. A new Islamic day begins at Maghrib, which is why the first Taraweeh is prayed on the night before the first fast, and why the night of the 27th of Ramadan begins on the evening of the 26th. Calendars, including this page, change the date at midnight only for convenience.
What are the twelve Islamic months?
Allah says that the number of months with Him is twelve, four of them sacred (Surah At-Tawbah 9:36). The Prophet ﷺ named the four as Dhu al-Qa'dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, Muharram and Rajab (reported by al-Bukhari).

When are the white days this month?
The "white days" are the 13th, 14th and 15th of each Islamic month, when the moon is full. The Prophet ﷺ told Abu Dharr: "If you fast three days of the month, fast the 13th, 14th and 15th" (reported by al-Tirmidhi).
In India, the white days of Jumada al-Ula 1448 are expected from Sunday 25 October to Tuesday 27 October.
