How Arabic numbers work
The numbers on this chart are the Arabic-Indic digits used across the Arab world and in the Qur'an's ayah numbers. Arabic words are read right to left, but numbers with more than one digit are written and read from the left, just like English: ١٢ is twelve.
Urdu uses a slightly different form of a few digits, such as four, five and seven. Learning these numbers helps children find ayah and page numbers in the mushaf.
