Luqman's Advice to His Son: A Free Qur'an Storybook for Kids
The loving advice of the wise Luqman to his son, from Surah Luqman, told simply for children with pictures, his words from the Qur'an and a colouring page.
Updated 25 October 2026
Allah gave Luqman wisdom, and in Surah Luqman He tells us the advice Luqman gave his son: be thankful to Allah, never worship anything with Him, be good to your parents, remember that Allah knows even a mustard seed hidden in a rock, keep up the prayer, tell people to do good, be patient, never be proud, walk gently and speak softly.
This storybook gives one piece of advice to each page, with a calm picture and simple words, so young children can follow along. It is a gentle way to teach good manners (adab) straight from the Qur'an.
At the end there are three questions to talk about together, Luqman's advice about prayer and patience (31:17) in Arabic with transliteration and meaning, and a page to colour in.
How to use it well
- 1Be thankful
Allah gave Luqman wisdom and said: "Be thankful to Allah" (Qur'an 31:12).
- 2Allah alone
"My dear son, never worship anything with Allah" (Qur'an 31:13).
- 3Honour your parents
Be good to your parents, and thank Allah and them (Qur'an 31:14).
- 4Allah knows everything
Even a mustard seed hidden in a rock, Allah will bring it out (Qur'an 31:16).
- 5Pray, do good and be patient
"Keep up the prayer, tell people to do good and stop them from wrong, and be patient" (Qur'an 31:17).
- 6Be humble and gentle
Do not walk proudly; walk gently and lower your voice (Qur'an 31:18–19).
