What the name means
"The month of sitting": Arabs stayed home from fighting and travel in it. It is one of the four sacred months in which fighting was forbidden: Muharram, Rajab, Dhul Qa'dah and Dhul Hijjah (Qur'an 9:36).
What to do in Dhul Qa'dah
- Avoid wrongdoing
Sins are heavier in the sacred months, and good deeds more rewarded.
- Prepare for Hajj
Pilgrims travel in this month; others prepare for the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah and qurbani.
What happened in Dhul Qa'dah
- The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, 6 AH
The peace treaty the Qur'an called a clear victory.
- The Prophet's Umrahs
He performed all his Umrahs in Dhul Qa'dah, except the one with his Hajj (Sahih al-Bukhari 1780).
Every month
- White days. Fast the 13th, 14th and 15th of every Islamic month (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 761).
- Mondays and Thursdays. Deeds are presented to Allah on these days, so the Prophet ﷺ liked to be fasting (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 747).
- The new moon. When you see the new crescent, say the dua for the new moon.
