Prophet Musa and the Sea: A Free Qur'an Storybook for Kids
The story of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him), from the basket on the river to the parting of the sea, told simply for children with pictures, his du'a and a colouring page.
Updated 25 October 2026
When baby Musa (peace be upon him) was born in Egypt, Allah told his mother to place him in a basket on the river, and promised to bring him back to her. The river carried him to the palace of Fir'awn, and Allah kept His promise. When Prophet Musa grew up, Allah spoke to him in the sacred valley and sent him to Fir'awn. When Fir'awn would not listen, Prophet Musa led the believers out of Egypt, and at the sea Allah split the water in two so they could cross safely.
This storybook tells the story in simple sentences, one picture to a page, so young children can follow along. Children learn that Allah always keeps His promises, and that when we trust Allah, He finds a way for us even when there seems to be none.
At the end there are three questions to talk about together, the du'a of Prophet Musa in Arabic with transliteration and meaning, and a page to colour in.
How to use it well
- 1The basket on the river
Allah told the mother of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) to place him in the river and not to be afraid (Qur'an 28:7).
- 2Back to his mother
The basket reached Fir'awn's palace, and Allah returned baby Musa to his mother, as He promised (Qur'an 28:8–13).
- 3The fire on the mountain
On his way home from Madyan, he saw a fire and was called by Allah in the sacred valley (Qur'an 20:9–13).
- 4His du'a
He asked: Rabbishrah li sadri, wa yassir li amri, wahlul 'uqdatam-min lisani, yafqahu qawli (Qur'an 20:25–28).
- 5The sea ahead
With Fir'awn's army behind, he said: "My Lord is with me. He will guide me." (Qur'an 26:61–62).
- 6The sea splits
Allah told him to strike the sea, and it split in two like great mountains, with a dry path between (Qur'an 26:63, 20:77).
