Young children learn letters best with their hands. Colouring a big, bold letter helps a child remember its shape long before they can read it in a word.

This book gives each Arabic letter its own page, in the order children meet them in the Noorani Qaida. Every page shows the letter large enough to colour, its name, and a simple hint for how it sounds.

It is a gentle first step for children who are about to start the Qaida, and a fun revision book for those who already have.

How to use it well

  1. 1
    One letter a day

Colour one page a day, and say the letter's name out loud while colouring.

  2. 2
    Say the sound

Read the sound hint together and copy it.

  3. 3
    Find it on the chart

Look for the same letter on the Arabic alphabet chart on the wall.

  4. 4
    Keep the pages

Staple the finished pages into your child's own letter book.

How to use it

Print the whole book, or just the pages you need, on A4 or US Letter paper.

Crayons and coloured pencils both work well. For a rainy-day activity, print a few letters and let your child choose which one to colour.
