Umrah has four parts: entering ihram at the miqat, seven rounds of tawaf around the Ka'bah, seven laps of sa'i between Safa and Marwah, and shaving or trimming the hair. This pocket guide takes you through each part in order, the Hanafi way, with what to do on the plane from India as you cross the miqat of Yalamlam, what is not allowed in ihram, the du'as in Arabic with transliteration and meaning, a packing list, the mistakes pilgrims often make, and a short note on visiting Madinah.

Step by step

  2. 2

  4. 4

Frequently asked questions

Where is the miqat when flying from India?

Flights from India cross the miqat of Yalamlam before reaching Jeddah. Make the intention on the plane, not at Jeddah airport.

Do I need wudu for tawaf?

Yes. Wudu is needed for tawaf. It is recommended, not required, for sa'i.

How much hair should a woman cut?

About a fingertip's length (2.5 cm) from the ends of the hair. A woman does not shave her head.

Is there a special du'a for each round of tawaf?

No fixed du'a is needed. Make du'a in your own words, and say Rabbana atina between the Yemeni corner and the Black Stone.
