Tajweed Rules Chart: Four Colour-Coded Charts with Examples
Four clear wall charts covering Noon Sakinah, Meem Sakinah, Madd and other essential rules, each with an example from the Qur'an.
Updated 25 October 2026
Tajweed is the set of rules for reciting the Qur'an correctly, the way it was taught by the Prophet ﷺ. Learning the rules one group at a time makes them much easier to remember.
These four charts cover the rules students meet on almost every page: Noon Sakinah and Tanween, Meem Sakinah, the types of Madd, and four more essentials including Ghunnah and Qalqalah. Each rule has its letters, a short explanation and an example word taken from the Qur'an.
The charts work best alongside lessons with a teacher, who can model how each rule sounds.
Step by step
- 1Noon Sakinah and Tanween
Izhar, Idgham with and without ghunnah, Iqlab and Ikhfa.
- 2Meem Sakinah

- 3Madd
Tabee'i, Muttasil, Munfasil, Lazim and 'Arid, with how long each is stretched.
- 4More essential rules
Ghunnah, Qalqalah, the lam in the name of Allah, and sun and moon letters.
