When the fard prayer ends, the Prophet ﷺ did not rush away. He sought forgiveness, praised Allah and made du'a. This chart gathers the adhkar he taught for after Salah: Astaghfirullah three times, "Allahumma antas-salam", Ayat al-Kursi, SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu Akbar 33 times each, and the du'as that complete them. Each line has the Arabic, an easy transliteration, the meaning in English and the hadith it comes from.

Step by step

  1. 1
    Astaghfirullah, three times
  2. 2
    Allahumma antas-salamu wa minkas-salam
  3. 3
    Ayat al-Kursi
  4. 4
SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu Akbar, 33 times each
  5. 5
La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah… to complete one hundred
  6. 6
    Allahumma la mani'a lima a'tayta…
  7. 7
Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik

After Fajr, Asr and the other prayers

After Fajr and Asr there is no sunnah prayer straight after the fard, so the whole list can be read while still sitting. In the Hanafi school, after Dhuhr, Maghrib and Isha it is best to say "Allahumma antas-salam…", pray the sunnah, and then read the rest.

How to use it

Print the chart and put it where you pray, at home or at the masjid. Read it from top to bottom after each fard prayer until you know it by heart. Count the 33s on your fingers or a tasbih.

Frequently asked questions

What should I say after every fard Salah?

Say Astaghfirullah three times and "Allahumma antas-salamu wa minkas-salam, tabarakta dhal-jalali wal-ikram" (Sahih Muslim 591), then Ayat al-Kursi, SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu Akbar 33 times each, and the du'as on this chart.

Is it 33 or 34 times for Allahu Akbar?

Both are reported. This chart follows Sahih Muslim 597: 33 of each, then "La ilaha illallahu wahdahu…" once to make one hundred.

Can I read the adhkar before the sunnah prayer?

In the Hanafi school, after Dhuhr, Maghrib and Isha say only "Allahumma antas-salam…" before the sunnah, and read the rest afterwards.

Is the chart free?

Yes. Download it in A4 or US Letter size, no sign-up needed.
