About this programme

Become a Hafiz — carry the entire Qur'an in your heart

To memorise the entire Qur'an is one of the greatest honours a Muslim can achieve in this life. A Hafiz carries 6,236 verses — the complete word of Allah — in their heart. It is a lifelong gift, a source of intercession and one of the highest stations in Islam.

The Hifz programme at Jamia Hafs is designed to make this journey achievable for every serious student — regardless of age. Classes are held five times a week, 45 minutes each, with Mufti Ataul Rehman guiding every step of the memorisation with proper Tajweed throughout.

There is no rush. Every student progresses at their own pace. What matters is that every verse memorised is memorised correctly — with proper pronunciation, correct Tajweed and strong retention through regular revision.

How it works

The Hifz journey — step by step

Memorisation is a skill that develops through consistent practice. Here is how the programme works.

01
New Lesson (Sabaq)
Each class begins with new verses to be memorised
The teacher recites the verses correctly first
The student repeats and memorises with guidance
Correct Tajweed is maintained throughout
Amount of new verses depends on student's ability
02
Recent Revision (Sabaqi)
Revision of recently memorised verses (last 7 days)
Ensures fresh memorisation is solidified
Teacher listens and corrects any errors
Building confidence and fluency
Identifying weak areas for extra practice
03
Old Revision (Daur)
Regular revision of older memorised portions
Prevents forgetting what has been memorised
Building towards reciting the full Qur'an from memory
Systematic coverage of all completed portions
The most important part of long-term retention
04
Parent Updates & Progress
WhatsApp update after every class
Parents always welcome to observe sessions
Regular progress assessments
Home practice guidance provided
Certificate issued on full completion
What to expect

Your weekly schedule

01
Daily live session
45 minutes on Zoom with the teacher, 5 days per week. Consistency is the single most important factor in successful Hifz.
02
New + revision
Every session balances new memorisation with revision of recent and older portions — the three-part system that Hifz teachers have used for centuries.
03
Home practice
Between sessions, students practise their new lesson and revision portions at home. The teacher provides guidance on how to practise effectively.
04
Parent involvement
Parents receive updates after every class and are welcome to observe. Family support is one of the biggest factors in a child's Hifz success.

Questions

Frequently asked

How long does it take to become a Hafiz? +
It depends entirely on the student — their age, consistency, ability and how much home practice they do. Children who attend consistently typically complete Hifz in 3 to 5 years. Adults may take longer. The teacher will guide you throughout and there is no pressure to rush.
My child cannot read Arabic yet — can they join? +
We recommend completing the Maktab Programme first so your child can read Arabic confidently before beginning Hifz. This makes the memorisation process significantly easier and more sustainable.
Can adults memorise the full Qur'an? +
Absolutely. While children generally memorise faster, adults can and do complete Hifz. It requires more dedication and patience, but many adults have become Hafiz later in life. The teacher will work at a pace that suits you.
How much home practice is needed? +
Daily home practice is essential for Hifz. Even 20 to 30 minutes of focused revision per day outside of class makes a significant difference to retention and progress.
Will I get a certificate when I finish? +
Yes — on successful completion of the full Qur'an memorisation, a certificate is issued recognising you as a Hafiz of the Holy Qur'an.
